Can ethanol be produced in the home? I mean as a backyard industry? How? (please show me the details).?

i have read that ethanol can be produced in a commercial scale, but can it be produced commercially in the home also? i mean as a backyard industry but in a commercial scale? it so, how? please show me your production flow, blueprints, & details.

Answer:
Ethanol may be produced in the home but there are two main limitations:
1. You are limited to 40 gallons a year of the distilled version for home use
2. You may not sell it.
Pure ethanol is essentially vodka. This is too short a space to go into details of the brewing and distillation.
The non distilled version is usually called wine, beer, or mead (if you are fermenting honey)
If you want to do this on a commercial scale, you will need federal licenses, a facility where the zoning laws allow it, and a good brewmaster.
It be against the law. You even need a licence to buy it.
There are distillation "still" kits and plans available. There are legal restrictions, but if you observe the regulations you can do it. Search ethanol and still and/or other related terms and you should be able to find what you want.

Edit 1
Alcohol for fuel use is not nearly as restricted by the US government as alcohol that is suitable for human consumption. Alcohol for fuel use must contain an additive to make it unsuitable for consumption.
Ethanol may be produced at home in limited quantities. ATF laws (bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) allows people to brew, ferment, and distill their own beer, wine, and liquor for their own personal use, limited to a certain number of gallons per year (can't remember exactly how much off the top-of-my-head, though) -- but, this amount is far less than any amount that would be commercially viable.

State and municipal laws may restrict the federal laws, so check with your attorney.

Since ethanol is coming into use as a fuel, some of these antiquated ATF laws and regulations may change in the future.

Bio diesel is a more realistic backyard venture. A good site to visit is journeytoforever.org It is not that difficult I have even done it myself.

Good Luck
