Pipes are specified by material specification with grade, Dimension(nominal bore, schedule No ), Seamless or welded.
Normally pipes are manufactured/specified as per some standard.
Various standards are available for above purpose. eg. ASTM/ANSI, API, BS, DIN, JIS etc.
you may consult for detailed information about selection of a pipe for specific purpose:-
ANSI B31.1 POWER PIPING CODE.
ANSI B 31.3- PROCESS PLANT PIPING CODE.
ANSI 36.10 - DIMENSIONAL STANDARD for pipes.
ASTM - MATERIAL STANDARD.
ASME- sec IX - Welding inspection standard- will be useful for you for piping inspection.
you may refer www.metal-inox.com for product specification examples.
