Who is the greatest engineer of all times, ancient or modern?
Answer:
WHILE ITS TRUE THAT LEONARDO DA VINCI IS PROBABLY THE MONSTER OF ALL ENGINEERING MINDS, YOUR STUDIES SHOULD INCLUDE ARCHIMEDES, GALILEO, THEBIUS, NEWTON, EINSTEIN, AND ESPECIALLY THE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL. THIS FIRST ENGINEER OF ALL TIME STANDS AT THE TOP OF MY LIST, AND EVEN IF WE WILL NEVER KNOW HIS/HER NAME, STANDS OUT AS THE "GREATEST OF ALL TIMES" FOR ME. IF WHAT WENT THRU HIS/HER MIND AS THE WHEEL WAS DEVELOPED COULD BE UNDERSTOOD, THEN THE KEYS TO THE BIRTH OF "ENGINEERING THOUGHT PROCESS" MIGHT SERVE TO ANCHOR THE THOUGHT PROCESSES OF OTHERS HAVING GREAT POTENTIAL IN THE FIELD. QUITE A REACH ISNT IT. THE REALLY GOOD ENGINEERS REACH.
...God? It would make for a great debate at least.

Your question is a matter of opinion and not related to engineering.
Leonardo da Vinci
I would go with Thomas Edison.
Maybe Nikola Tesla - when considering the modern era.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh
he's one of the older architects (if you think architects are engineers)
I would say Nikola Tesla, but it is so sad that he has never had the recognition he deserved.
