What is AVR microcontroller?

I know a lot about PLC and a little of PIC. But I have no idea what is AVR mirocontroller?

Answer:
It's a family of RISC microcontrollers from Atmel. A single clock cycle buys you a completed instruction. They've got quite a following among hobbiests and embedded control designers, and there's TONS of information about them out on the web. Search for "Atmel" and "AVR".

Here's Atmel's product description on their site:

http://www.atmel.com/products/avr/overvi...

and here's a typical user's site:

http://www.avrprojects.net/
.
