Stopping mobile signals?

A friend of mine owns a club and would like to stop people using mobiles in there. I know that signal jammers are illegal here in the UK so is there any other options available? I have read a little on RF absorbing materials, would something like this be possible? Maybe fitting something to that walls/roof perhaps

You could try just lining the place with some silver mesh screen.

You would need a screen room or an anechoic chamber to do the job. Expect on spending a few million. Even a leak the thickness of a thickness of currency will negate the shielding

Could always line the roof with a couple of inches of lead - fairly expensive though!!

As noted above, the answer is yes -- providing you've got an unlimited budget. I spend a fair bit of time in chambers designed for this purpose (keeping the outside signals *outside* so as not to interfere with measurements inside). Such designs are not inexpensive, although it is easier to degrade these signals than it is to eliminate them.

To put this to rest, you should investigate the construction of a Faraday Cage. It can be done with a great deal of copper mesh whose openings are small enough that signals at cell phone frequencies can't penetrate it. The entire area to be protected must be enclosed. All of that copper must then be carefully bonded together and "earthed". The price of the copper alone is going to make the project prohibitive.
