Chemical Engineering Major Question?
a. How many pounds per hour of water must be fed to the tower is the gas rate is 500 ft^2/min, measured at 1 atm and 32°F?
b. how many transfer units are needed, based on the overall gas phase dividing force?
c. If the tower packed with 1-in Raschig rings, what should be the packed height?
for equilibrium: assume that Pa=Pa°ɣΧa
where lnɣa= 1.95(1-x)^2
The vapour pressure of acetone at 80° F is .33 atm.
For mass transfer, use the equation below:
Hx=(1/α) [(Gx)/(μx)]^{n} [(μx)/(ρxDx)]^(.5)
Hy={1.01Gy ^(.31)} / Gx^(.33)
Answer:
Not for nothing, but I remember when I was in ChE that it was very difficult. But you are not doing anyone any favors by trying to have some other genius do your plant design/Distillation homework. This is highly unethical. As an engineer I feel ashamed that you resort to this. I am certain that if your college has an honor code, this constitutes a violation of that code, and is grounds for dismissal from the University. At least it was when I was in school.
Do the world a favor: If you cannot do your work, go to your professor for help. Should you graduate as a chemical engineer and get hired, what makes you think you will last when you cannot come up with your own calculations and your own designs?
If you still can't hack it, change majors. ChE is a hard major. Probably the hardest there is. I believe you can find an easier major that provides you with as much professional (and monetary) satisfaction without the all-nighters cracking your skull over thermodynamics problems.
