Your teacher wouldn't really want you to invent something, so just modify something or mix two things together. If you really can't think of something, re-invent something no one knows of.
what level are you in?
get your science book or lab manual, take another look at your science experiments. check out what equiptments are needed in the experiment.
now ask your self can i simplify this experiments if i dont use these equipments?or take out one or two equipment- ask your self how can i proceed with the experiment?
now make your invention. ask someone (engineer or some science geeks) who could execute the idea.
the trick is try not to reinvent the wheel, just modify it.
