Can you get stuck in a home elevator?

I was watching MTV Cribs and some people had elevators in their homes. Can they get stuck in them? Are they power operated?

Answer:
Yes, they can get stuck in them.

Most elevators that only cover two to three floors are hydraulic elevators. They use a hydraulic pump to lift the car to the upper floors. To lower the elevator, a solenoid valve is opened and the hydraulic fluid is allowed to drain back into its reservoir.

The controls and the doors are operated electrically. In the event of a power outage, the doors will not open. Since the hydraulic pump can't operate, the elevator won't go up. And if the controls are not working, the valve can't open and the elevator won't go down.
well not unless you have it checked every reccomended time it is supposed to be checked and also i dought many people have home elevators so i wouldent worry about it.
well i suppose it is a possibility. are you thinking of getting an elevator in your home? make sure you have an inspector come out to make sure that it is properly lubricated.
