Should Postmen/Women be paid more or are they over paid - under worked?

I think that postmen and women do need to be paid more. They have to get up early and hump heavy bags around and do this in all weather conditions. Like most businesses the management fiddle and faff around wasting oodles of money and paying themselves above average pay rises when the people who are actually doing the work that the client pays for are getting screwed.
Neither, they need to raise their hiring standards.
They are pretty overworked in the US for what they get paid. If they work full-time, without overtime, they'll make maybe 25-30k per year.
EDIT: Stan the rocker: a basic point of labor economics is that if you want to raise hiring standards, you have to raise pay. You won't get a flood of better-qualified applicants for a job if you leave the pay the same. Better-qualified applicants expect to earn more than less-qualified applicants, and so they will only be attracted to jobs that pay better.
Paid more. Our post people are great and work hard.
all that happened in our house when they striked (is that the correct word?) was to ensure that we would never use their service again. You've got to move with the times, why should people pay more to send a letter with Royal Mail just to top up their wages? They are little more than unskilled labour, a McJob but expect the wages of a graduate or something!! The service is just not good enough!!

I know a few people who are/were in stressful difficult jobs who wished they could just be postmen (they are all men). It looks idyllic.outside all the time, meeting people, no pressure, no stress, no hassle, good for you! Blimey compare that with what many people have to do to earn a living! Is there a downside??
They have more priority then an emergency vehicle. 4 way stop sign. Fire Engine lights on, Police Car at the other lights on, and an Ambulance Lights On and a Postal Truck who gets at the stop sign last who has the right of way?
And, yes this can be on a drivers test.
Postal Truck has right of way. Reason they maybe carrying a declaration of war within the truck.
So remember a Postal Truck always has the right of way.
