Should stainless stell be irridited?

stanless is already corrosion resitant, then why irridite

Answer:
Apart from changing the colour, it may help to irridite in some instances. I have not come across any application used for SS though.

I have seen chromate conversion used it on aluminium alloy to prevent dissimilar metal contact with brass. I don't see why this would not work for SS if there is an issue with dissimilar metals.

SS is susceptible to crevice corrosion, so if this is a possibility, irriditing may help. I have seen cases where a lable stuck on a SS sheet has caused corrosion underneath, a coating may have helped.
There is no standard need for stainless steel to be iridited (conversion coating). The normal practice for stainless steel is to passivate.
However, there is a practice out there to use a conversion coating (Iridite, Alodine) with a chromate to increase the resistance to corrosion.
I have not found documentation that this helps.
