Would this be a good idea?

A system of shafts which connect all households and shops running underground. The shafts have conveyor belts inside them which move at about 30 miles an hour and are a meter wide by a meter tall Each household has a computer installed in the living room wall - like an atm machine. You can order any item from any shop in the system using your debit/credit card using this "atm" type machine. The items can then be dispatched immediately into the system and carried in a box which has a keypad on it to type the address. Each household would have a quick address in the form "cs125" for example. So for instance say you wanted a big mac meal.
you'd go on the computer.Put your card in and type in big mac.
The nearest place that sells it would come up and you pay for it.At the other end in mcdees they would place the meal in one of these boxes and type your home code in.The conveyor system would then deliver it to your house!!

You are 150 years too late. In the 1800's, the center of Chicago was honeycombed with tunnels not only for the distribution of utilities, but also for delivery of supplies to the urban businesses. Most still exist and are used for modern utilities and the older buildings still have accesses to the tunnels in their sub basements, tho usually bricked up. Don't you remember the great Chicago River leak 20 years ago or so, when a contractor installing pilings around some of the bridges accidentally pierced a tunnel and the river leaked into the tunnels, complete with a whirlpool, that flooded many buildings? The leak lasted several days and they tried a bunch of fixes, gravel, cement and other things without stopping the leak. Finally, they dumped a bunch of mattresses into the eddy, which served as a base for subsequent sand, gravel, then cement.
Oops, I got off the track with a bit of trivia. What was the question, again?
BTW, I seem to recall New York had a similar tunnel system about the same time. Not certain, tho.
No. The nearest mcdees to my house is about one mile away, travelling at 30 mph it would be cold and soggy by the time it reaches me. Maybe not for food, but for other items.
I think Domino's Pizza have already done this - apart from the system of shafts underground (as this would cost far too much money and is a logistic nightmare) - they just use these poorly paid delivery people who use a moped to deliver your food.
i think you are nuts
Are you American - only Americans could be so lazy.
How many gigabillion watts of power do you think will be needed to keep thousands of kilometres of heavy gauge(and therefore stiff) belts moving 24/7.All this will eventually emerge as heat so the belts will be made of asbestos and the whole population of earth will die of mesothelioma.
With such originallity you must stand at the next general election
David Lord Such would have been so proud of you
