Why are the sewage drains circle and not any other shape?

Answer:
Because this is the only shape where the covers can't fall in accidently.....Truthfull... ...Nuf Said
Never thought about it but I suppose it would be due to the circular whirlpool motion of the liquid when it goes down a hole. A circle shape would probably enable that while a square or triangle or whatever would hinder it.
they are other geometric shapes also. curbs are generally rectangular. overall circular pipe is easier to manufacture (see how its made).. easier to clean (see dirty jobs)
Since the service men have to go down them:
You don't put a "round" peg in a "square" hole! :-})
Never gave that one much thought...Like a previous post had mentioned it would be easier to manufacture.

Other reasons maybe...

Maintains stability well if buried...Would be difficult to collapse.
Uniformity for installation purposes...if it were an odd shape you would need a much larger selection of fittings to complete a job.
When running pipes inside of a wall it is much easier to drill a circular hole rather than an odd shape while maintaining maximum amount of framing integrity.

I looked for a website for reasons but came up empty.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
I assume you mean the (roughly) horizontal sewage pipes or tunnels...

1. A circle is a very efficient structure in resisting the external soil loading.
2. A circle maximises the cross sectional area for a given amount of fabrication material.
3. At low flow rates the circular arc at the bottom of the pipe tends to keep the flow speed higher (to help prevent silting & clogging) - in many older sewers this is accentuated by making the cross section more egg-shaped (with the smaller radius at the bottom).
.
hey you may not get to this one answer but thirty years ago i had an eng 101 teacher give me the same answer elo fudpucker gave you.So as far as i'm concerened i'm going with that one to the bank.:)...good luck from the E!!
corners causes blocking in the sewers besides it changes the speed of the flow and designers dont want that
Elo Fudpucker, your first answer above, has it correct.

The circular shaped cover is the only shape that will not fall thru its own opening, accidentally.

A square or rectangular cover can be rotated to pass thru the diagonal dimension of it's opening. and if it is possible to do it wrong, it will be done.
