Stainless steel?

stainless steell nuts an bollts catch, stripe threads and end up useless, why, and what can be done to avoid it ?

Answer:
Appropriate lubrication when the bolts are installed will help.
use grease... not the musical

and make sure its the right sized nut for the bolt... otherwise it will damage the thread.
Steel is very tough! The only thing I would use stainless steel for would be for dining! I think whatever makes it "stainless" makes it less tough.
May God bless you.
if you got a job that requires great lastig power, go to air-craff nuts and bolts, tritaiulem, they hold for you,
Proper lubrication and careful mating of nut & bolt.
Assemble with molybdenum disulphide as a dry lubricant. The cause of the problem is that all stainless steels are stainless only because they are covered with a protective oxide film. When such a metal surface rubs against another under load this oxide layer is scraped off and the surfaces WELD TOGETHER locally, only surface separation will help.In the trade the term is "galling".
If this is a serious engineering problem and the moly disulphide doesnt do the trick you may have to consider monel or inconel or various bronzes.Good Luck
I have read somewhere that if you use stainless steels of differing nickel/chrome concentrations they will be less likely to "gall" or sieze, strip, etc... If possible you could use a stainless steel bolt with a carbon steel nut. However if the application requires stainless steel, then the best way to avoid galling is to use a 316SS bolt with a 304SS nut (for instance, any sufficiently different alloys should do the trick)
Use some copper grease before assembly.
