How much more energy does a gallon of gasoline make than is required to refine and deliver it?
Answer:
I cannot answer your question, but it may be irrelevant. The advantage to gasoline as a fuel is that it is the most convenient way to store energy to carry about in a vehicle. Storage batteries in electric cars are far, far heavier than the equivalent amount of gasoline.
well it is all relitive. how far back do you wnat to go. becasue most of the time refiners use the unusible parts of crude oil to heat the seperators.
what are you planing to do about that?
Past all the media hype, gasoline is refining and delivery is efficient.
---Poor countries want to sell it.(cause AK-47s aren't free ya know)
---Slow moving tankers are very efficient gallon for gallon (until there is an oil spill that is)
---Refining isn't a process of separating the bad from the good. Its a process of separating the good from the good. The cheapest component is burned to fuel the whole process.

Straight from my head with no concrete backing i would estimate a gallon of gas costs:
10% Iraq Kuwait etc etc
10% tanker
20% Corporate bureaucracy of oil companies(profit)
15% trucking
20% retail markup
25% State and federal highway taxes
So from this rational a $3.00 gallon of gas could be bought in Iraq for $.30. Maybe not so efficient after all.
And the rest is politics.
