What are the disadvantages of two speed motors over single speed motors?
Answer:
Can't really think of many, but I think if you have a multi-speed motor then you will need extra circuitry so as to accomodate the different speeds. This is an extra cost as compared to a motor running on single speed, and is considered a disadvantage.
I hope you get more disadvantages though.
There are really no disadvantages when the motors are factory installed in a piece of equipment, except that there is a small increase in price over a single speed motor.
The disadvantages for field installed two speed motors are increased cost, more complicated electrical power requirements and more complicated controls.
when d motor runs on lower speed ie on lesser no of poles consumes more energy. u may use an ac drive in place of 2 speed motor.
I can only think of an advantage.
A two-speed motor can reduce the power consumption of the system by 6% - 13% (depends on speed reduction).
