Are there alot of Environment Scientist/Engineer jobs available?
Answer:
In the US, the number of jobs in the environmental field will grow, but rather slowly. The jobs available depend on what particular niche you are looking at. Availability of jobs (and projects) is primarily driven by regulatory requirements. For example, in the last few years there has been a demand for people that specializes in stormwater because certain stormwater regulatory deadlines became due.
There are three major sources of jobs in this field: government, consulting, and industry. Government jobs are low paying but you have job security. Consulting jobs have long hours but can be high paying. The number of jobs in industry is relatively small, and environmental matters are usually combined with health and safety (EHS) so you may also need safety/industrial hygiene expertise.
