How does an in the ear thermometer work?

I need to know about the sensors inside not a description of the product. i already went to howstuffworks but i need more detail thanks!

Answer:
It measures the amount of infrared radiation coming off the tympanic membrane. This is then compared to a standard curve and converted into a temperature reading.
