I want to get a degree in engineering??
im 14 and my dream is to go to MIT for a degree in engineering, but i was wondering, what job oppertunites are there for this? what is the yearly income for an engineer? what else can u tell me about colledge, and engineering, anyone? im feeling generous.
Answer:
Just as a foreword, going to the "best" school for engineering ultimately means nothing. I've had professors who are wholy incompetent that graduated from MIT PhD programs, while professors who graduated locally knew their stuff inside and out.
There will always be a need for engineers in society, you will never find yourself short of possible jobs, you just need to choose one with not only satisfies your wage desires, but is enjoyable to you. EIT/EI's right out of University make 55k - 60k initially, with significant pay increases as you move to Junior engineer to full engineer, and finally professional engineer.
It has often been said that Engineering is the HARDEST undergraduate degree you can get in university. (Note: Medical and Law programs are postgraduate and doctoral). Do not expect it to be easy, you will work very hard for very poor marks, but don't lose heart; the class average may be 30% on the midterms, but if you get a 32%, you're better than half your class. And thats usually saying alot.
i went to college for 3 years. 1 was studying Mechanical engineering, the other 2 was for electrical engineering.
now i work as a manager in a section of the factory earning $60k. engineers will earn possibly less but you need the engineering qualitifactions and experience before you can manage a section. the labourers in the place earn about $45k.
i am sure that with a degree from MIT you will be offered around $100k at management stage. . .. im guessing
What type of engineer?
I'm in school for Structural Engineer
but you could be civil engineer, mechanical engineer
, computer engineer, chemical engineer
what you make depends on your field of engineering.
Be prepared for a lot more school ahead of you though.
Remember when you get out of high school don't job right into MIT. They're going to try to sell you into this. The best way is to go to community college and take every class that can transfer. You will save 10,000's this way.
