Working of Automobile and two-wheeler engines.?
Answer:
IDK
Similar to steam engine except that steam is replaced with gasoline-air explosive mixture. Imagine piston within a cylinder with the cylinder top closed so the piston can only move in one direction. If the closed chamber between piston and top of the cylinder is filled with gasoline-air explosive mixture and if the mixture is ignited it will explode and develop a pressure on the piston to move away from the cylinder top. The rest is engineering. Piston away movement is limited and transformed into rotational movement by the fork shaped crankshaft. Now they come four tacts of the piston movement:
1. that we just described is the working tact that moved piston away.
2. chamber opens by the exhaust valve and piston moves toward the cylinder top removing the exhaust gases from chamber to outside world.
3. piston moves away from the cylinder top creating under-pressure in a chamber, the intake valve opens, and explosive gasoline-air mixture enters a chamber.
4. piston returns back toward cylinder top and pressures the explosive mixture (during this tact all valves are closed).
Going back to step 1. the spark plug ignites the mixture which moves piston away from the cylinder top. So this is the 4 tact cycle used in almost all gasoline powered vehicles.
Now you may ask what is moving the piston up and down during tacts 2, 3, 4? Answer: other cylinders. That's why the car must have at least 4 cylinders. At any time one cylinder executes tact #1 which is the working tact. Pistons are connected to the crankshaft so that while cyl 1 is executing tact 1, cyl 2 is executing tact 2, cyl 3 tact 3 and cyl 4 tak 4. Next tact cyl 4 executes tact 1, cyl 1 tact 2, cyl 2 tact 3 and cyl 3 tact 4, etc.
All automobile engines are internal combustion engines.Petrol is supplied through a carburetor to the piston & and cylinder assembly in a required quantity periodically and it is ignited in the right phase. In the firing the gas expands and pushes the piston up and down. This linear to and fro motion is converted into a rotating motion with the help of a crank & shaft assembly. This rotating motion is transferred to the wheels through a clutch& gear Assembly. Automobile engg. is a vast subject and it is to be explained with the help of diagrams.
