How do I make an electromagnet to lift 15 kg?

Answer:
That obviously depends on 15 kg of WHAT? Iron? Nickel? Wood?
A fairly large soft iron core, and lots of windings with insulated wire. Any voltage type, or source will do, just be sure that the source has the capacity to maintain the magnetic field generated.
You need to be more specific.
"lifting" as in moving a certain distance through air, or "lifting" as in carrying?
Round material or flat material?
Thought of what happens in case of a power failure?
