Proton led displays lyons georgia-question?

Can data be sent via the light of an LED? If so, how far?

Answer:
Fiber optics is the medium!

Data communication is possible even between intercontinental destinations. The commercial telecom industry is using this option for quite long time.

But if you are trying a project with LEDs the best bet would be to design a encoder-decoder setup to convert the data to low frequency electrical pulses and feed it to LED. The receiving end an LDR can be used to convert the light back to electrical pulses and your decoder should be able to convert it to the data bits that you sent.

A bit complex design, may be I can help you better if I know the requirement
yes it can, you can also use a fibreoptic cable to bend the light and extend the distance. THe problem will be interpreting the data at the other end.
