What would happen to earth if it was possible to attach a cable from somewhere like the eiffel tower...?

all the way to the moon? (i know its an unrealistic question but who cares?)

Answer:
Well its not exactly the same as in your question, but similar principle... there is a company/trust trying to build a space-elevator.

I think it is pretty fascinating... especially the scientific facts on how the earth rotates and the inertia at the end of the cable counteracts gravity to keep the cable taut.
That would be a great idea!! Then all the Frenchie's could easily go to the moon! Eventually as the moon rotated around the earth it would stretch and break the cable and they would have no way to return!
Umm, thats an interessting qoestion. Because of orbital movement something will break, like the cable, or if it is strong enough, a piece of the eifel tower might be caried up into spact!
Have you heard the quote- "Give me a lever long enough and a place to stand and I will move the earth."
Presuming this "what If" could be accomplished:
The Moon is not Geo-stationary for the first Kicker. Second Kicker is The Moon also has itr's own rotation about it's axis. So what would happen is -if the cable was permanently secured to the Moon , the Moon would rip out the Tower in-Toto or at least part if it and haul it up into space if the tower didn't disintegrate on the way Up and Out!
That would be One HECK-OF-A Sight to See {:~) ! ! !
Since the earth rotates, the moon rotates and orbits, the cable would break. The moon is never in the same place in the sky except for an instant
the cable would be broken as soon as it was tied off on the mood.
There would be an imbalance in the weight of the earth because half the population of the balkans would jettison themselves into space climb down the wire and jump on the next eurostar to england.
it would have to be long enough to reach incredably far distance depending on the rotation of the moon and earth.
it would either
a snap
b pull the earth out or orbit
c pull the moon out of orbit
d pull the whole solar systme out orbit
e wrap around the earth and the moon bigning them together

but if it did work what woulld happen if
a there was a total eclipse
b the cable snapped and miles of cable fell across the world
