Factors limiting mass of projectiles in guns?
Answer:
Size of the gun barrel
Amount of thrust available in gun powder
Density of material used in the bullet
There was a good HBO movie about the weapons contractor who tried to build a "supergun" for Sadaam Hussein.
I remember from that movie and from somebody who said they bored out an automotive axle to make a gun that could fire only once. Apparently, really large, powerful guns tend to lose a lot of steel from the inside of their barrel with every shot. I think that is why that 12-guage rifled slug shotgun barrels do not have the same scoring grooves as other pistol and rifle barrels. But, they're sure as powerful as anything I would ever care to fire.
heavy objects need much force to project them and the second reason may be due to friction.the reduce mass increases the impuse of the force
