To weld 2"X2" solid mils steel section only higher amp stick is not enough, you need to do WEP means “Weld Edge Preparation". After WEP you need 1 cm dia weld stick with 600/800 amps. And without WEP, you need other method to weld the said section.
To weld solid 2x2 inch steel you will have to form a deep V join and make multiple passes. Basically that kind of job will take just about as much current as you can throw at it on a domestic welder apart from the first 3 passes to build the initial fillet.
