By which sensor can I estimate the level of water surface in a cup?

I want to estimate the level if water surface in a cup.
Without touching the water, how can I measure it?

I tried that by ultrasonic sensor, but it did not work...
help me.

Answer:
A scale, you weigh the cup empty, then with water and calculate the volume and the resulting level in the cup.
There is also a level sensing technique that works by pressure change. You apply some amount of air to the surface of the liquid and the pressure of the apllied air changes when the liquid level changes.
