hey iam trying to amplify the voltage output. iam using MPX5500. how much can i amplify. I have ordered a wrong sensor. Instead of 20Kpa sensor i have ordered 500Kpa sensor. my project is due in a week and i have no time to order the next sensor. How do i do the modification of the 500kpa sensor. something have to be done to the input analog volatge. the maximum pressure i need is 20Kpa and the graph of the sensor is giving 0.4 volts offset. If i amplify the circuit will the , will the error be amplified or reduced.
Answer:
Let's assume a couple of things:
1) both sensors have an offset voltage
2) the sensors are linear in their pressure to voltage transfer curve
You will need an amplifier with a gain of 500/20 or 25 to correct for the range error. The offset voltage will also be amplified. All other errors, including noise, will be similarly amplified.
I'd suggest going for a gain of 25 op amp with an ability to null out the sensor offset voltage. I doubt this is a high bandwidth sensor, so you can add filtering to lessen the high frequency noise which otherwise would be 25x larger.
