Can tell me the purpose of excavation in construction ? *detail please?
Answer:
different soil has different bearing capacities. when we design a foundation then depth of foundation is calculated based on the soil bearing capacity. Whatever the depth of foundation is obtained from calculation so much the excavation is done. this comments are based on design philosophy.
Excavation is not merely restricted for foundations only but is also used to burry something to achieve the specific objective, like we burry cables or pipes to prevent from damage or harm.
excavation is also done for making canal, dams or rivers, culverts.
Basically excavation is done to provide a platform to anything resting on it so that it withstand with the ground firmly, like a tree grip the ground and stand on it.
Umm...to move dirt out of the way so you can put stuff underground like pipes and foundations and basements.
To reach a firm ground base to properly sit the foundation on a solid load bearing substrate.
Building on top soil would mean the support is likely to be washed away by rain, or could settle under the weight of the construction, possibly leading to cracks, distortion or other damage to the construction itself.
Excavating meens getting to the base of solid ground so when you put your foundation in the building won't shift or sink.
