How can I make electricity from electric motor?
Answer:
Any DC permanent magnet motor can also be used to generate electricity. Essentially, a DC motor is an electrical to mechanical energy transformer. It works both ways.
By turning the motor shaft, the rotor windings pass through the fields of the permanent magnet inducing a voltage in the rotor windings. This voltage is available at the motor terminals.
This is how an automobile alternator works, except that the alternator uses electromagnet coils that must be also energized instead of permanent magnets.
So, if you have a DC permanent magnet motor, you can just turn the motor shaft to generate power at the motor terminals.
A very simple example of this is using a small motor from a toy. You can connect a light bulb across the motor terminals and wind a string around the motor shaft. When you pull the string quickly, the light bulb will light. Great for demonstration, but not very practical.
Obviously, on a larger scale, the same thing is being done in gasoline powered generators, all the way up to turbine driven generators in hydroelectric dams.
These examples are AC generators, but the basic principles are still the same.
Enjoy!
you can buy one of those lil generator things they use on bikes that power headlights, but you won't generate more than you use.
