Why there are less girls in engineering ?

Answer:
Women tend to be more "people and relationship" oriented. Men tend to be more "thing" oriented. Hence women tend to be more attracted to the life sciences while men feel more comfortable in the physical sciences.
Because most girls would rather take "easy" majors like "Communications" and "Psychology".

Society also percieves engineering to be a "male" occupation and this keeps many women out of engineering such as nursing is percieved to be a "female" occupation and a lot of men stay away from nursing because of that.

You also have to realize that a lot of girls go to college to get a "Mrs." degree- they go to college to find a guy to marry. So why choose a hard major if they just plan to be a housewife.
God knows.
As everyone knows, women and men have very different brains and thought patterns, and it extends beyond who naggs the most and who leaves the toilet seat up. Men are generally better in math and science, whereas women tend to be better in Literature and History. This doesn't imply to everyone, because God knows I hate History, but generally it happens that way.
cause men are better than women in mathematics and calculation

and that's in structure of human brain for girls and boys

and same thing women are better than men in emotional and social problem solving

that's a big science
The reason is part cultural, part gender differences. Even though a lot of women have entered the engineering profession in the last few decades, it is still an old boy’s network.

Women tend to be more drawn to professions that involve aesthetics, or interpersonal relationships, like interior design, or teaching.

It is NOT because women cannot do math as well as men. I studied engineering at a college that, at the time, had one of the largest female enrollments in the country. The female engineering population at California State University, Long Beach in the early '90's was 12%. Some of those women kicked my a** in mathematics. One of our most brilliant professors was a woman.
There really are some biological differences in the brains of males and females - however, I still think the major hinderance is cultural. Patriarchal societies teach girls to be mommies and tell them they should not want to do more.

I do agree that a focus on aesthetics will drive female engineers toward things like architecture instead of industrial applications.
Usually because by the time they have finished an engineering degree they have become women. But seriously, ask a woman engineer.

Men and women compete in different ways, and men and women have different skill sets. Men are statistically much better at visualizing things in 3D, so women engineers tend not to be as interested in design, etc. It turns out that this sort of skill is actually linked to testosterone.

The women that do remain in engineering degrees seem to gravitate towards industrial engineering (perhaps because it is more people oriented) and also towards aerospace. In many cases I would say they are better at math and other courses than their male counterparts, so it is not a case where they lack the academic skills. It must be a cultural or social thing.
