How do i build a radio out of household materials?

Can't be done. At a minimum, you'll need something for a detector, and even the crudest "crystal" radio uses a crystal -- unless you've got bits of germanium laying about in *your* house! The old razor blade trick is a real bugger to make work -- I don't advise it.

The second problem will be something to listen with. You won't be making your own piezo earphone out of anything from around the house.

However, if you're willing to stretch things a bit and at least come up with a piezo earphone and a either a chunk of germanium or a purchased version (1N34 is the classic), you can make the rest from bits and pieces from around the house. Check the following link...
