Why arent houses usually built with bricks in the USA?

the commomest houses you see are built with a wood, only not so hard and heavy like your door, why is that instead of just building with good old concrete bricks

Answer:
Wood is prefered over concrete as building material of houses in earthquake/typhoon/cyclone prone zones and in places where wood is cheaply available .
Typhoon Katrina and others every year re-appear. Wood is better for damage control measure .
Wood is good for shaping beautiful contours and easy to work with, lightweight and certain category is also quite durable and dermit proof.
Inside woodhouses are more comfortable than concrete in hot summar as well as cold winter . Wood is good heat as well as humidity insulator.
Construction/dismantling/shift... /maintenance of woodhouses are also cheaper/quicker and easier at countryside , with lower labour force and small tools and prefabricated panels being available .
USA prefered remaining green at home when old wood houses of colonial era were rebuilt or replaced by a new..
All these add reasons for using isolated wood for dwelling houses in village USA, where small family do not require multistory .
Only setback is fireproofing of wood.
in texas they do
Many houses here ARE built of brick, but I haven't ever seen a house in America built of concrete; it's a lousy insulator, and is brittle under stress.
because wood construction is cheaper and usually faster to build, as well as being more tolerant to shifting stresses.
They are in oklahoma
They do first off. It is cheaper though to build with wood. Brick is not a building meterial. It is tied into block.
I don't know but I always wonder the same thing when I see wood everywhere after a hurricane.
