What is sonic anemometer and on what pricipal is it work ?

Basically i need some information about the reason of using three treansducer in sonic anemometer ?

Answer:
The principle uses sonic technology in orthogonal directions, as inputs to detect speeds.

I suspect the reason for the 3 transducers is to sense the output of speeds, on three planes.
