Can you use a generator to power a golf cart. Transformer the gen to DC and be able to drive the golf cart?
Answer:
You could run the cart from a generator. The output needs to be (or converted to) the same voltage and power rating as the cart motor plus some extra power to start the thing from stopped.
A much simpler idea would be to use the generator to charge the battery with a fast charger. You may have to wait a little while if the battery is totally flat but this would be much simpler and cheaper because of standard components (generator, charger)
I believe that you can use one but that it may be detrimental to the motor of the cart itself because a generator does not produce a constant current (it ranges up and down a bit). The exception, however, is that if you use the generator and connect it to the charger inlet on the golf cart and make the batteries the actual source of power instead, then the power source to the batteries is the only one that rises and goes down with the rpm of the generator and the source to the motor is from the batteries at a constant rate.
Technically you can, provided you have the voltage control and smooting circuits. The motor in the vehicle wouldnt care where the power comes from as long as it is what is expected.
The big question is, what is the point in doing so? Electric motors are preferred when you do not want sound or smoke pollution. The generators are more notorious in these fields. Additionally you have more loses because of the generator-regulator-motor couplings, you can as well use a suitable internal combustion engine to power the vehicle directly. The generator is more likely to drive the vehicle directly than convert it into electricity and drive a motor.
