Where are the production means made?
Answer:
You are correct - machines have been used to make other machines for a long time now.
The original machines were made by hand. A long time ago at the dawn of the industrial revolution :)
Probably, the original machines are long gone - sold for scrap or rusted away.
Like the earth ramparts used to build the pyramids in Egypt they are gone now but what they built is still here as witness that they must have existed!
Something is never made out of nothing. There is very little which can be made entirely by hand from nothing using no tools, and virtually everything which can be made by hand is easier if you use a tool. Even the most primitive tool we know - a hand axe - is itself usually made using a tool (a conveniently shaped piece of rock). As the objects we produce get more elaborate, then so do the tools, and so do the methods needed to produce the tools.
If all of our machines dissappeared over night, we would have the knowledge to rebuild our industries, but how many people would we have the skills required to make machine components by hand? How long would it take to rebuld?
