How ,Where is a diode used as a detector ??

Transistors are usually used as detector.(3 terminal device)
Can a diode(a 2 terminal device ) be used for making a detector?

Photodiode is used as detector??(Not sure)

Answer:
Depends on what are you detecting? A photodiode will detect the presence of light. A normal diode could be used to detect and demodulate AM radio transmissions. An LED can detect the presence of a voltage.
My GOD... just WHY are you wasting your time with a THIRTY YEAR OLD TECHNOLOGY? If this is a course you are paying for... you are being CHEATED.

In the 1960's diodes were used as RF amplifiers or were back biased for noise amplifiers but that was nearly FIFTY YEARS AGO.
surely u can use....in LED.....a diode is used..
The crystal in the crystal radio of the early 1900's uses a diode as a detector.
