Do you think that solar energy is amore efficient fuel compared to fossil fuels?
Answer:
I would choose the environment.
I like solar panels better because the power comes from the sun and the sun will continue to shine for a long time.
It may seem to be very expensive right now but in the big picture it may be cheaper to have it installed. The environment is really feeling the effects of humanity right now so I would say it is time to start spending a little bit extra to help save our earth.
Of course. You have to live in a place where you get lots of sun though. It's not practical where I live, by the ocean, where it gets foggy practically all summer long. It's foggy and cold right now. But at least I don't have to spend any money on air conditioning - ever.
that only applies if you can afford to use solar power, most people cant afford it,no one wants global warming.
Solar energy is more sustainable, but unavailable and expensive yes.
Whereas fossil fuels are harmful, apparently "cheaper", and widely available.
I recently purchased 4 blocks of renewable energy from my local power company, it costs around $5 more per block than what I'm used to paying but I do it for a reason, to increase demand for renewable energy in my state.
Would I chose money or the environment: I would say I chose the environment, because without "the environment", no matter how much money I've got if I'm left wihtout a planet to live in :-) Simple!
The upfront cost of solar is currently too high for me, but I would love to switch to solar. The long term savings will offset much of the cost, but at this time not enough to make it feasible for most people.
When installation can be done on a smaller scale and the long term savings more than cover the cost, most people will be ready to convert.
I will definitely be on board once the cost is in line with the long term savings.
Take care,
Troy
ALL energy is solar energy. Fossil fuels simply captured that energy a long time ago. In fact, solar is a very diffuse, and inconsistant form of energy production. It's really only practical in space. But using growing plants like prarie grass is extremely efficient, and a very good replacement for fossil fuels. Just convert it to methanol using a biodigester. IMHO, THAT's the way of the future!
It may cost thousands to install, but you have to remember that this is a one time charge. Once it's installed, you have no "Sun bills", whereas any other type of fuel does come with bills. Gas and electric bills are expensive. If you live in a northern area with snow and cold winters and have gas heat, your gas bill can easily run into the hundreds every month during that winter and you have already paid the thousands of dollars to install.
If you plan to live in a house more than 5 years, your installation can usually cover it's own cost in saved bill money. Then it's free energy from there on. Solar power isn't a choice of money or environment. It's a choice of spend a large amount now, or spend a larger amount over time.
I do think solar power is more efficient than fossil fuels. All you need to do is buy the collector and the energy itself is free. I installed solar electric panels on my house about four years ago. They generate about 75% of my electricity and save me about $1000 per year on my electricity bill and the savings are rising every year as the cost of electricity increases. My system will have paid for itself in another 4 years. After that they will generate free electricity for another 20 years. They have also saved about 18 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. I guess I choose both my money and the environment.
Saving energy can actually save money.
I Would totally get solar power. It may be expensive but I know a guy that makes energy and has enough to sell some back to the PUD! Its a great way! In the end you would be saving the environment and making money!
Solar panels can be expensive, but you can get a 30% tax credit, up to $2,000 USD (1).
Also, if you create enough energy, and don't use it, you can store it and sell it back to your utility company. Virtually making your energy bill in the black and your utility paying you (2).
Also, solar panels are at historical lows (3). As demand gets bigger, prices will continue to lower.
Many places are switching to solar. Restaurants, banks, grocery stores, even major league ball parks (4).
Switching to solar makes cent$ (sense ha ha), and I recommend trying it.
As technology goes along, solar power will become much cheaper, and so in the long run solar power is much more better for the environment; knowing what would happen, I would take solar power. Also, currently you get about a $2000-$3000 tax rebate for solar power, so after some time it will pay itself off.
Some places SOLAR just won't work, not enough sun. Other places it's the best thing.
But other places the WIND is our best asset, we need to use what is best for where we live, some places may be able to get away with using solar energy sometimes, and windmills at other times. I have seen windmills here in the northern states, where they go back as far as the eye can see. most of them running. I think it's so cool.
And best of all, in the state I live in, the electric company has to buy back any extra energy you make that you can't use. Usually that happens with windmills. Then you get a check back from your electric company.
depends on your definition of efficient. fossil fuel is cheaper than solar energy because of that solar energy is not widely used. solar energy needs to capture more energy per inch or millimetter to be a viable source of energy. well maybe in a few decades will they capture more energy than today. or maybe by them a newer better energy is used. like the rediscovery of the testla experiment unfinite energy from the earth alone.
It is not as efficient yet, but hey we landed on the moon. We need a leader like Kennedy to get the job done. Solar arrays have been becoming more efficient every year. There is enough power from the sun rays that hit earth everyday to power the whole world for a year, maybe more. Solar also has the plus of when the power goes out, power usually goes out when it is really hot out and no one conserves energy. So when people lose power you will still have battery back up.
yes we all need to be responsible for our own power supply. This is one way to achieve this. So what it you cant use a clothes drier or iron the cotton shirts for work. it has gone well beyond that.
fossil fuels are the most efficient energy source known to man. Period.
There's a reason why it's so heavily used.
more efficient, no. cheaper and more cost effective, yes.
Of course it's more efficient, and, while solar energy is also finite, I don't think we have to start worrying about the sum winking out for a few billion more years.
Electric can cost thousands and thousands to install too. You have to run wires and all that and then you have the monthly bill! I would love to try solar energy!
I would choose the solar energy. Although it does cost quite a bit to install, in the long run it will actually save you money. And yes, it is more efficient, as solar energy doesn't, "run out." It is also better for the environment. =)
If I could afford to install solar panels to run my entire house I would definitely install them. I have always wanted solar panels, but they cost way too much for me to ever have any.
