How can I go Green in New York?

Any Idea's on how I can start a recycling program in my area, my friends are all opposed to recycling, they say it piles up to quickly, and its a waste of effort. What are some things I could do to make people in the Syracuse area, see the importance of going green?

Answer:
Why don't you take your friends on a drive to the garbage dump and see the trucks pulling up with thousands of Tons of Rubbish every day!
In Ireland we have a recycling depot where we can go once a week to drop off plastics, glass and cardboard for free but I'm not sure if there is one in NY.
Your doing the right thing so don't let your friends discourage you!
