but i found one that is totaly uk kind of set up called realcycle
what do you think of our enviroment?

Answer:
I've had a look and how is it different from Freecycle? I saw that there isn't even a Mission written up either, so I can't compare.
Why do the rules of Freecycle not apply to us in the UK? I've seen Freecycle set up in many different countries, some with cultures very different from those in the US. And it works very well.
I think Freecycle is great. However, do remember that people do give away to friends, neighbours, charity shops etc. etc., (and have done so for many years) and it isn't the only way we give and re-use. Some Freecyclers I've come across seem to think that it is a revolution. It isn't at all. However, it does increase our 'pool' of possible people we can give away to and receive from, which is great, and a fantastic way of using Yahoo Groups.
I think Freecycle works well, and local groups can set up their own rules, within reason anyway.
If Realcycle works better than Freecycle, then that could be the way to go, but it looks to me like someone has set up a few groups in Wales, and is looking to expand to other parts of the country (the numbers are still low on the other groups). For what reason? Realcycle is using Yahoo Groups, just like Freecycle.
What is the point in setting up something else which is exactly the same as Freecycle? What were the reasons? Were these people not aware of Freecycle? Was Freecycle not working in their area? If so, why would an identical group work better? (Was there a problem with moderating with a Freecycle group?).
However, if it all works towards getting things out of landfill and people re-using rather than chucking, then that's great.
I do think that the use of 'cycle' in the names is not correct though - there should be 're-use' in the title of the group, as it is more appropriate. We are not recycling through Freecycle, we are re-using.
There is a Freecycle uk! Search it on google - Freecycle Uk.
I'm 99% sure that there is. You could give your stuff to charity or something.
We do need to do something with the enviroment! Deffinatly!
freecycle is great here . we have a couple of thousand members for this area, but on realcycle there is only three. i will keep an eye on its progression but for now i will stick with freecycle it is a wonderful site. thanks for letting me know.
Entirely agree. What UK needs is a completely 'old' approach to recycling as was the case back in the 1940s and 1950s when I was a Kid!
So what happened back then?
Most of what we did not throw away was sold back. Jam jars, bottles and lots of other stuff too. For example, if you bought a bottle of fizzy pop from a corner shop in those days, you had to pay a deposit on the 'glass' bottle. Coke whatever. This bottle was then returned and the deposit either taken in the form of cash or used as part payment for the next bottle and so on ad infinitum.
The present recycling methods do not encourage nearly enough people to recycle. How much easier if when I bought a bottle of wine, I paid a deposit of say 30 pence or so on each bottle and this was either redeamed as cash or used in part payment of the next bottle[s].
The same could also apply to jam jars etc.
As for paper. Back in the 1940s and 1950s, households used to collect their newspapers and mags and then sell them by weight to the paper merchant in the town. All of this paper was then pulped and remade back into paper again.
It is the recycler who should get paid, and not the local council. In fact I will go as far as to say that local councils should be kept right out of it. We need to bring back the old rag and bone men of the past [Steltoe and Son].
The system worked a treat until the politicians stuck their noses in and screwed it all up. It's now almost next to impossible to recycle anything unless it's via the council.
This is a dirty plot to deny the people their share of the victory by not allowing us to earn back a deposit paid.
Hundreds of thousands of tons of our recycled material is ending up in China where it is stored in monster warehouses.
What the hell is going on?
The real problem here in UK is an almost complete block on knowledge gained in the past. Young folk are discouraged from associating with older folk, thus 'knowledge and skills' are not passed down to the next generation.
It's not the parents of today, it's their parents, the grand parents and even the great grandparents of the present day school generation who's knowledge we need.
People in the age group of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown just make me laugh. They do not want to involve the people in anything, just make laws and rules to annoy us.
Every aspect of our lives is now in the control of Government. Believe! I am a pensioner aged 65 born in 1941 when England was at war. With our American allies and others, we won a great victory. Our victory has been stolen from us by successive governments, mostly populated by people who were not there when it mattered.
Power to the people - yeah and profit too.
