From what I remember, the Secretary of Interior (can't remember his name) back then ordered to let the fire take it's natural course. Is that a good idea in a National Park since they also use controled burns ?

It is recovering beautifully. Fires are natural and inevitable. The longer you go without letting them burn, the more violent they are when they do get going.
Unless we can stop lightning, forest fires will happen. If you were a deer, you would want a burn every 20 years to keep young green food within reach.
