Answer:
There are a lot of little things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint, or how much you personally contribute to global warming. Here are just a few ideas.
Carpool as much as possible. Also, ride the bus, subway, or other public transportation whenever you can. Walk or ride your bike if you are going somewhere less than a mile or two away.
Keep on recycling and encourage your parents and other family members to help. Along with that, reuse whatever you can. Instead of buying tupperware containers, wash out and reuse tubs from sour cream, butter spreads, lunch meats, etc.
Purchase items that support recycling and other green programs. Look for packaging made with 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Also buy products with minimum packaging. For example, buy bagged cereal instead of cereal that has a bag and a box.
Plant a garden and encourage your parents to buy produce from local farms and farmers markets. The less distance produce has to travel to get to you, the less carbon it produces.
Don't turn on your air conditioner until it's over 80 degrees in your house. That's a hard one, but using plug in fans instead saves a lot of engery and money!
Most importantly, keep doing what you are doing. It's great that you care so much. Educate yourself and use your enthusiasm to get more people you age interested in saving the earth.
Keep up the good work!
You can not only do things to help fight global warming your self but convince others to do the same. set up a class on your block and pass out flyer's telling ppl the benefits of recycling which is just a small thing that everyone can do to help.
Not only should you worry about the Rain Forest, IT'S ANY FOREST. All over the world. They should outlaw the cutting of trees, unless they were grown, just like a crop for that purpose. You ,my dear , can help just by not dropping trash, and recycling it instead. That is the keyword, that I think will save this planet.Recycle. You know they can and have used recycled auto tires to replace concrete side walks? That's a great addition to Saving the Earth. If only every city would use them. They wouldn't have to cut trees down because their roots are growing through the concrete.Kids wouldn't get hurt if they fell on them. Let's all try to come up with more ideas on how to recycle. Bye
It sounds like you are already doing a lot! My advice is to continue on the path you have already started. Speak up whenever possible to help others realize the importance of those issues. There might be a group or club at your school or in your community who do projects like planting trees and clean up days, that you can get involved in. You are off to a great start, don't give up!
hi! u could try 2 set up a class @ our school or try 2 get a group 2 go and have an assemble!
Good for you!
1. Walk or ride your bike when going places! It will save fossil fuel emissions, help keep you in shape, and save M & D gas money. Even if it is a mile or two, it is not too far to go on foot or on bike.
2. If available, take public transportation if walking or biking will not cut it. It is cheaper than gas, doesn't require your parents to take you places (I don't know about you, but my parents got on my nerves about taking me places all the time when I was 14!). Hopping on the city bus pollutes less than adding a car to the mix
3. If you have younger siblings, encourage them to walk of bike with you, getting them into the habit as well. We need to spread awareness.
4. It's wonderful that you are recycling! Take it a step further by getting recycling initiatives going at your school, church, or other places. Even though you are "only 14," you can make a difference!
5. If you are interested in animals, look into volunteering at a local animal shelter. It's not saving dolphins, but you can be making a difference to animals in your area.
6. Talk to your folks about things like the CFL bulbs next time they have to buy replacements. Bone up on your facts, and let them know how much it matters and will save them in the long run!
7. Simple things like turn off lights when you leave a room, don't let the water run while bruching you teeth, trying to shave an extra 3-5 minutes from your shower, etc. will make a big difference both in the utility bills and in the envoronment.
8. Get some canvas at the local fabric store and make a few reusable shopping bags. Get stuff to decorate them and make them "pretty"of you want to. If you are like me and can't sew to save your life, you can ususally buy canvas shopping bags at craft stores and health food stores.
9. Write letters to your government officials (local people, state legislators, governor, U.S. Representatives and Senators, etc) about their records on environmental issues. If they have supported pro-environment legislation, thank them. If not, express your concern. If you are not sure of what to say, many non-profit environmental foudations can give you pointers on writing the letters (some even have form letters you can just print out and mail).
10. You may not have tons of money at 14, but when you do have money to spend, look for businesses that are environmentally conscious, products that use less packaging (and recyclable packaging).
You know, I had not realized until I started this how much can be done without hours of effort and tonsof money- thanks for reminding me, and best of luck to you!
the best we can do as individuals is be more responsible ,in our own neck of the woods
What can we do to make a community more aware of global warming?
organise well publicized clean up parties ,talk on the radio
have citizan meetings
get the shools involved to plant trees and listen to environmental awareness talks,
that is what we do in Mexico
POSITIVE ACTIONS
print Tshirts with slogans ,hang posters all over the place (with recycled paper if possible)
classify trash take out all the organic waste and make compost with it ,the worst you can do is throw it with the trash
70% of contamination is due to organic waste that is mixed in with the garbage .
and it is just as bad in the sewer where it helps to breed rats and in the landfill it poisons the ground
and it is the easiest to take care of
o first of all we have to clasify trash at least keep the organic to one side ,like in a plasic bin with a lid
if you got a few meters of ground ,you only need 1 or 2 square meters in a shallow hole ,in the shade ,that you can wet now and again ,where you dump everything that is organic ,from toilet paper, bones vegetable cuttings ,eggshells,,dead bodies ,excrement ,and cover regularly with leaves to keep humid and to hide any smell
the worms will come and decompose the wastes truning it into beautifull blck soil for the garden of flower pots .
if you are in a apartment ,if you have a balcony get a big plastic bin drill some holes in the side and lid ,
and add a few buckets of sand now and again to put over the trash ,you should realt stir or move the stuff at times to airate it and ensure that the decomposition is overall ,keep moist
this rubbish does not get big very fast and the thing works for a long time with out getting full
got a compost heap in the garden for 6 years ,have added tons of banana poles ,and palm leaves at times tree trunks ,the mountain goes up and down and never seems to get any bigger ,the stuff rots and becomes a very fine black compost of high density
------------------------------...
global warming cannot be stopped but we can stop helping it becoming faster, and being friendlier to out Environment cannot be bad
if you do any cleaning up leave signs behind saying who cleaned, why and ask people not to start dumping rubbish again ,leave a hole or bins ,in case people come with trash ,
we have done a lot of comunity cleaning and if you dont leave alternatives or try to work on peoples guilt feelings (some people actually have those ,but not many)
than your efforts are a waste of time.

if you want to help the planet ,plant a tree every week ,if everyone on the planet did we we would be able to slowdown the destructive processes
reduce carbon emisions, and they are already working on that by alternative forms of energy and regulations on carbon producing materials, aerosol cans, burning rubbish, industrial chimneys, powerplants etc.
the capture of carbon and the production of water and assist the aquiferous manta.
the world bank pays large subsidies for reforrestation to capture carbon and the best tree for this is the Pawlonia
Waterharvesting projects ,such as millions of small dams.to redirect over ground waterflows from the rains into the ground to supply subteranian water supplies.
the protection of existing forrests.
stop building more highways, urban planning to include vegetation stop building cities encourage people to return to the land to conduct their business from there which now has become possible thanks to the internet.
education to motivate people to auto sufficiency by building more home food gardens.
education on environmental awareness
education on family planning to curb over´population
Agricultural education and improvements to follow the principals or sustainability and soil management.
more environmental or land ,design to prevent bush fires, such as--fire breaks
,more dams.regulations and control for public behaviour
alternative effeciant public transport to discourage the use of the internal conbustion engine
recicling wastes,limit water use
here are a 100 more ways
http://www.eco-gaia.net/forum-pt/index.p...
try finding new and creative ways to reuse things before throwing them away...be really creative.
after i use facial cloths, i reuse them as cleaning wipes in the bathroom to touch up the sink, mirrors...i keep using them until they wear out.
there are a gazillion uses for dryer softener sheets. see if you can find a half dozen resuses for every item you're tempted to throw away. you may not shop for green products yet, but you can make the most of what your family purchases. you can do it!
copy and paste this and send it to as many people as possible:
Do YOU care about the creatures that are taken away from their homes because their natural habitat is destroyed?
If you answered yes, so do I.
Not only the animals, but also GLOBAL WARMING and other enviromental issues.
Everybody! Let's keep this world a WONDERFUL place to live, so future generations will preserve the precious gift of a safe place for people and animals and plants to live.
Add your FIRST NAME or a NICKNAME to the list below.
If you are #100, please send it back to (enter your email adress here). I will then send it to (place of your choice that may get the city/region/county/state/natio... to have not just Earth Day, but possibly "Earth Week" or something like that). Thanks for cooperating!
send that through email. thats what my friend's cousin did to have one hour of non-swearing music on a radio station. and it actually worked! you can also tell your friends, or maybe even write a report for extra credit at school to present to your classmates. if you are sending the emails, make sure to replace the words in parentheses () with word(s) that you think would fit.
good luck, and you are a WONDERFUL person! don't forget to add your name to the list before you send it!
When you become older, try not to use your car when you can walk or ride a bike, or take a bus or a train.
Buy recycled paper, and write on both sides.
continue recycling and go on and do your best
You could talk to your parents and others about doing their part, let them know how passionate your about this, you may be pleasantly surprised.
You can do things like this, don't waste water if you take baths, take quick showers instead you'll use less water, when brushing your teeth shut off the water in-between you can save that way as well. Before you go to the fridge decide what you want so its not open for long periods of time. You said you recycle that's great, but if your buying soda in cans and they come with the plastic rings around them, cut them before you recycle them, if some how they get into our oceans or even at a land fill it can hurt or kill the wild life.
I hope this helps keep up the good work, I'm proud of you.
