How can we as a country promote alternative energy, use less foreign oil and reduce global warming?
Answer:
None of our government never think of giving up oil consumption, all is about dealing with politics talk. If we presume that each country has to protect it's own people, and its own interest, that won't be easy to ditch oil coming from abroad, as long as this serve our interest, in the real live, noone will look at it as a way to follow and help in global warming.
When governments acknowledge the fact that something has to be done, they look at what they will be loosing giving up the exploitation of oil. Of course they are willing to do so, but how far are they commited to achieve it, many issues are involved, new energy but less taxes, an instance would be solar energy, noone will task you of receiveing rays because that's something natural, but loosing without compensation it's not that obvious.
On another hand, the major exploitation of oil is done abroad, meaning our population, our people are not involved and that what happened in 60s, 70s and now, However, thinking of global warming means developping countries must be at the level of developped countries, if so, there will be less incomes from abroad.
An instance would be the use of electric cars, but howmuch do those toys cost if not not obvious for a middle class to get one of them. Thinking of solar energy, this could be done but how far our government are willing to implement these new technologies in a real life.
To sum up, it''s not today that this issue will be solved, just let's wait and see how far would be the challenge
Switch to geothermal power - this is the most cost effective, environmentally sensible, sustainable, reliable, land and water efficient option. This is cheaper than nuclear power (and could be cheaper still, it has had very little money put into it but is such simple technology that it could easily be improved with more efficient designs) or "clean" coal and far less damaging to the environment ("clean" coal still produces lots of emissions, nuclear produces nuclear waste).
MIT estimates that the US alone has enough accessible geothermal power resources under it to power the entire world for thousands of years.
It is already underway. A three pronged attack of energy use will put a big dent into greenhouse gases.
Photovoltaic panels to generate electricity.
Geothermal heat pumps to heat/cool buildings using only the electricity made by the PV panels.
Electric Vehicles to commute and run errands, once again using the PV panels to power the EV.
Petrochemicals will still be used for drugs and plastics but we will not be burning fossil fuels to power the country's most energy dependent products, buildings and vehicles.

I hope you are not talking about America
they are set on Making global warming worse
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
to force the world into globalization ,they think it will save them starting a nuclear war ,but most likely that will happen anyway
other wise how will they achieve the 60% reduction in world population they talk about
Foreign oil is the only oil they like, there are apearantly huge reservoirs of oil under the USA
And all efforts of alternative energy they kill or depopularise ,since they are still making so much money with their foreign oil
You can address global warming by adopting TAGP(tm).
