In theory, an AC or refrigerator doesnt cool warm air it removes the heat from the air thus making it cooler. There is a difference.
If the air is warmer, it has to work harder (longer) to get the heat out of the air and cool it.
Just as your body has to produce more perspiration to cool itself in more heat, the fridge has to work harder to keep the same interior tempeture.

Yes, my fridge in my blazing hot garage works harder than the one in my house. I am thinking that this is why my elec. bill is so high. The condenser cannot release the heat that is removed from the box and so the fans have to run longer and does not work as efficiently as when in well ventilated or normal areas.
Here's one for you. I lived in an unheated house for a few years...that is to say no central heat. We had wood heat in the main room but the kitchen was cold, sometimes below freezing at night. The refrigerator went wonky. A neighbor told us to put a low watt light bulb inside the frig to help regulate the temp. It worked.
