Environment question I think (about water)?

Okay so I keep hearing that taking a shower is better than taking a tub bath. WHY? When I take a shower I can be in there for over 30 minutes at at time and a tub bath even longer BUT I can only fill the tub up so much where as the shower is constantly keeping the water going down the drain. Also I have children so if I run the tub for them with a little water, I can get them all washed up without the extra waste of a shower steadily running while I am sitting there washing their hair. What do you all think? Tub or shower?

Answer:
It's up to you to decide which is better at saving water. If you're in there a long time, use tub. Short time, use shower.
I vote for the tub. If you were only going to be in there for a minute or two to freshen up then I would say the shower but I agree that people are saying shower too much and it doesn't make sense. Like you said, you can only fill the tub up so far while the shower is constantly running. I spend about 5 minutes just on my hair and that would be 5 minutes worth of shower water just draining when if I take a bath, the water is sitting there already.
You already answered this question because yo know it depends on the user and the goal.

Shower for the quick cleanups and kids when they get old enough to get done in a reasonable amount of time (and water).

Tubs for the very young because you have to wash them and you get less wet with a tub bath and they can have more fun.
if you go on environmental issue it is better to go for shower as for filling a tub u need a large enough supply of water whereas when u use a shower it uses the amount of water only required to have a proper bath and not enjoyment. so go for a shower if an environmental thinker
I think whatever is more comfortable for you. As far as water use goes, the biggest wastes are from watering the landscape (at least in drier habitats). Planting climate appropriate plants is a far more useful exercise than worring about your shower or bath! Generally use in the home is fairly consistent, can be predicted fairly well. Landscape use however is incredibly wasteful oftentimes and not predictable at all! Hopefully I answered your question, albeit indirectly!
Shower if you can keep it to about 10-15 minutes max. and if you are a person capable of doing it yourself.
Tub for more than 15 minutes I would say if we follow your logic - which I agree with.
Now may I ask - why would it take you more than 15 minutes to take a shower? That seems like a long time...
