How much energy would it take?
how much energy would it take to create something like a deck of cards from nothing??
Answer:
can't you both get a life, and just enjoy the beer.
what the hell are you talking about
How many angels dance on the head of a pin. Pointless question. Try something more meaningful such as how can we keep the islamo facsist from trying to blow up our country?
About 10^16 Joules.
Quite a lot considering the cutting down of trees, the transportation of the wod to a mill, the transportation of the mill product to a paer mill, production of that raw product into paper, coating the cards in plastic film printing , packaging distribution ,marketing and final point of sale, not to mention all the petrol diesel, and electricity involved.
Just one thought though,1 ton of concrete produces 1 ton of carbon in its production.
ahhhh i remember those evenings of pub banter lollll. heres one for you what year was the store argos invented that will keep you going next time you go out drinking
Aye, tis true in the other answers. You cant make owt from nowt, you need something to start with. To create a pack of cards the final step will be to print the card faces on some sort of substrate and cut them into identical size. Before that you need the substrate such as paper or card plus printing inks. For the inks you could use vegetable dyes but for the paper you would need to process wood or straw or grass or cotton and make a sheet to print on. You would also need various chemicals to make the sheet printable. Already you come to a point where you will need to grow something in the first place which harnesses solar energy to create biomass for the paper and for the dyes. So without soil, water, seeds and something to contain them, your on a non starter.
Q.E.D you cant make a deck of cards from nothing, you need a positive starting point greater than nothing.
Now it may be a bona fide way of passing the time whilst supping an ale or two in the pub but as there is no possible provable correct answer and any answer will include a degree of assumption and conjecture, you could be in the pub a long time.
this is a field of study called "embodied energy"...
It is hard to determine this although studies have been done and it really depends on where it was made and how it was made and what is was made of and even how it is transported.
Also depends on the local infrastructure in place.
If you wanted to make a deck of cards from "nothing" on a desert island it would probably take 10 years of energy.
