Global warming, real threat or overhyped myth?
Answer:
Overhyped myth.
It's all a political thing. For starters, remember about a year or two ago there were always scientists on who voiced their opinions saying that there isn't Global Warming. Now, where did those guys go? Did somebody pay them to shut up? Now all we get is the one sided opinion, that they want us to hear.
Have you noticed that all of this hype has only gotten more prolific as the next U.S. Presidential Election draws near? And who is it making all the noise trying to get the attention? That's right, the Democrats.
I think that environmental issues are, to modern politics, what religion was to historical politics, a way to try and control the people and make us do what they want.
It's funny how the people that make the most noise, are the ones using the most resources and causing the biggest problem, if there even is one. Like take when Mrs. Kerry moved an initire mansion from England to America, a few years back, because she couldn't find a house here that she liked.
Rather then listen to these people tell us what to do, why not watch what they do, and see how much they follow the rules of their own hype.
Real
Neither. I would characterize it as an over hyped threat.
Myth...

JUST BULLSHIT TO CONTROLL THE MASSES ONE WAY OR ANOTHER
No threat whatsoever. It isn't caused by man; It can't be stopped by man. The earth has weather cycles. Get a clue all you global warming morons.
I'd say its not as serious as they say. I don't know much about it, but if the earth is getting so much hotter and melting to death and stuff, then there is absolutely no explanation that this past winter in Pa (where i live) was an average of like 13 degrees colder than last year.
Very real threat to mankind, which we as the dominant species are causing. The companies and people in cxontrol of things dont want to admit this because then how else would they make a profit? One important reason the american auto manufacturers are having trouble is because the competition is making vehicles with better mileage. Lakes are dissapearing, glaciers are melting, the co2 in our atmosphere is 3 times the highest it's ever been. Watch inconvenient truth and it'll boggle your mind how bad things truly are and will get, if we dont change our ways.
Real threat. Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. Global average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.3 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations," which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a cooling effect since 1950. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects these conclusions, and a few individual scientists also disagree with parts of them. Climate models referenced by the IPCC project that global surface temperatures are likely to increase by 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) between 1990 and 2100. The range of values reflects the use of differing scenarios of future greenhouse gas emissions and results of models with differences in climate sensitivity. Although most studies focus on the period up to 2100, warming and sea level rise are expected to continue for more than a millennium even if greenhouse gas levels are stabilized. This reflects the large heat capacity of the oceans. An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including sea level rise, and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. There may also be changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, though it is difficult to connect specific events to global warming. Other effects may include changes in agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Remaining scientific uncertainties include the exact degree of climate change expected in the future, and how changes will vary from region to region around the globe. There is ongoing political and public debate regarding what, if any, action should be taken to reduce or reverse future warming or to adapt to its expected consequences. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at combating greenhouse gas emissions.

Umm lets see... REAL! Are you not seeing the climate changes? Example i live in California , last week we hit 102 degrees and we have not even hit the summer yet! They are talking about a serious drought this year! Global warming is a serious problem and if not corrected will be our generations killer.
no threat, really. It isn't a myth, but definately overhyped. the Earth is warmer, but not cause for concern. the earth goes through cycles much longer than we have been alive, so we will not know whether it will keep warming or start cooling. if it took 100 years to heat the earth by 1.5 degrees, how long would it take to actually affect us?
Global Warming isn't the reason while in CA you are experiencing very high temps. There is absolutely no fact in the CO2 levels having any effect on the Earths temp. We are talking about 1.5 degrees, what is it that you don't understand?
REAL threat, hands down.
Climate change is real, it has been happening since the beginning of the planet. Humans causing it is a myth perpetrated by the High Priest of Global Warming, Al Gore; as a way to keep his name in the papers and to make him millions more dollars, on top of the millions he makes from his ownership of oil companies.
Climate change could be a real threat to life on this planet, as it probably was to the dinosaurs millennia ago. Your impact on this cycle is negligable, however.
There is truth to the science behind it, but it has been blown vastly out of proportion by the media and politicians attempting to influence voters.
overhyped somewhat-factual mild problem
Definitely over hyped. The scientists are making a fortune doing studies and forecasting, the media is hyping it for ratings, and politicians are hyping it for votes. The same scientists that are talking about global warming were in the recent past blaming the green house gasses for making the planet colder and putting us on the brink of the next ice age. Now everything is blamed on global warming, including natural disasters that we have seen many times in the past. The ice at the north pole is shrinking, but the ice at the south pole is growing, we only hear about the north pole because that confirms the global warming theories. Al Gore is a fear monger even the scientists that are the most extreme in their views of global warming don't come any where near the disaster threat of an Inconvenient truth. Here is an article from an MIT Scientist on the Religion of Global Warming.

Absolutely real threat. And it is nothing new, it's been going on for decades.
i'm sorry to say this, but anyone buying this crap is really foolish.
some years ago, it was said that our sun is getting hotter and that one day we all going to perish. oh, and since we use gasoline, our planet is being intoxicated, killing nature, etc.......
the world is not ending yet, and many of them won't live to see the so called "Global warming destruction" because it's not real.
plus, one presidential candidate is using this to gain votes. you know who he is, Gore.
Global warming is real, but it isn't being caused by man. Al Gore is an idiot, he based his movie on theories supported with shaky data. Global warming and cooling has occured for billions of years, before and after man's arrival, it is more influenced by the sun than it is by our cars and cigarrete smoke. Those greens who say we can stop it are wrong, we can cut all auto usage in the WORLD and not make a dent in global warming.
definately overhyped--but al Gore has nothing better to do while he is sitting in his big mansion
give it 20 years and you'll have your answer, but global warming shouldnt be and exuse for us to quit being idiots

My belief is this global warming is an overhyped myth in terms
of man being the cause of this. It is being said that using our big cars and big industries polluting the air is a major reason for this. There isn't a single fact out there that proves this, only theory by mainstream media which try get support from so many so called expert. How can we explain that in previous ice age, which was hundreds of years ago when there were no factory and big cars polluting the Earth , it heat up. How is it that Mars is warming up yet there is no signs of life polluting the planet. If the planet is warming , it is just a cycle of the climate not cause by any human. Remember in 1999, when there a lot of hype about how the computers, which controls a lot of things in our life will go crazy on us because it is not set up correctly for the year 2000. All the hype that the world will end or something, yet nothing happened.
As others have said, global warming is a natural event. It happens about every ten thousand years and is followed by an ice age. Can't stop mother nature.
Real threat among some people but i think it won't happen.
I wouldn't say it is either. I would say that warming and cooling have happened on this planet for millions of years. I think it fluctuates. Around 1100 ad, it got very warm and a huge drought hit much of the US. This is what scientists think caused the downfall of the Mound-building Indians at Cahokia mounds. Temperature then was supposedly 6 degrees higher average than now.No cars then for sure
By the same token, I dont think humans can be blamed for this current warming. If I recall correctly, there was even a mini ice age around 1200 -1400 ad. No cars then that I am aware of.
So, I think this is over hyped and a natural occurrence with humans being responsible for a very, very small part of it. I think we are giving ourselves too much credit and power to destroy earth. People yes probably, earth, not likely.
If everyone is convinced mankind did this and we are in dire straits and will all die soon if something isn't done, then I suggest those most worried, eliminate themselves and help save us that are left.( probably the meanest thing I've said in a month)
Overhyped, but not 100% false.
How often do you believe the weatherman? Some facts, some conjecture, lots of opinions. Global warming may be real. But really, what is causing it? Volcanos are a huge source of green house gases. At the end of the day, should you try to save energy, keep pollution to a minimum, reduce emissions? Absolutely, but, we should be doing that anyway because being a good steward of the earth is the right thing to do.
Myth. Everyone thinks they're a global warming scientist these days.
I used to think it was real, but now I think its all over hyped. I don't see an immediate threat...The Earth goes through stages ---it has been since before mankind ever existed. Remember global cooling ? What happened to that? Now the Earth is too hot. And the only reason why this subject is so hott now is because rich/influential ppl/celebs are hopping on the go green train and making everyone else believe in the hype. Even if global warming was a problem, it'd be way too late for us to do anything about it now. It'd be like trying to stop the Ice Age.
