Powerstrips will not save you money by saving energy all they will do is just allow you to plug in more devices to one outlet and protect you against power surges and spikes.
A powerstrip will not save you any money... It allows you to plug multiple things into one outlet and on some strips offer surge protection. But your devices STILL consume the same amount of electricity...
You can use a powerstrip to turn of multiple appliances at night and save the electricity they use in standby.
For something like the TV and stereo system, you would save maybe 0.5kWh of electricity per day, which might add up to a few dollars a month.

Power strips save you money IF you turn them off when non of the appliances are being used that are plugged into it. Say you have your coffee maker, can opener, toaster and microwave all on a power strip, these will still draw some electricity even when not in use. However, turning off the power strip will help save.
