Can global warming effect wind energy i.e. can it effect the wind speed or intensity of the wind?
Answer:
The answer is yes it will effect wind speed. Physics laws prove as something gets hotter the atoms move faster.
Wind energy fluctuates in most places too much for it to be a viable source. And it's quite expensive in many aspects. Whether or not it can be a good source of energy is relative to the other power sources available.
Not really. Wind is caused by cooler air 'pockets' moving to take the place of rising hot air 'pockets', because the colder the air, the heavier it is. Since global warming isn't evening the earths temperature, there will probably be approximately the same temperature differences in different parts of the earths landscape, meaning about the same amount of wind and the same level of intensity.
global warming has a direct impact on wind change, high and low atmosphere pressure will change and winds will go wrong ways.

Global Warming, were it to occur, would result in higher energy weather systems so more wind and rain. This could be good for wind power, but the extra cloud cover would be bad for solar power generation. Neither of these are reliable for base load power. That requires power you can ramp up as needed, so relies on Hydroelectric (I guess you could stretch a point and say that is a forth of Solar), Fossil Fuel burning Power stations, or Nuclear. Greenies don't want us damming Mother Natures rivers, don't like Nuclear either, and say we have to stop burning Fossil fuels.
If we have to rely on Wind and Solar power our civilisation will collapse back to pre-industrial standards of living, and population levels. It's unlikely many environmentalists would survive the die-back of humanity that would result from implementing their policies, so eventually the consensus would swing back to rebuilding an industrialised civilsation something like what we have now.
Global warming may decrease the trade winds, but increase wind shear in the jet stream.

Wind power is currently about the same cost as coal and natural gas. So even with small changes in wind speed it will be economically useful in the future.

There is no direct effect. Both Global warming and wind energy are two different natural phenomena.
Global warming is caused by certain gases like Carbon dioxide, methane etc. When these gases go up, they form a protective layer, thereby trapping the heat within the universe. This is very similar to the glass house. Imagine you are in the glasshouse. As every time you breathe out, co2 is emitted and over a period of time, the glasshouse gets warmer. This principle is widely used in Europe for farming during winters.
Wind energy is caused by the rotation of the earth, which is again very natural.
As CO2 and other gases rise up creating some sort of blanket, wind motion is not directly affected, but do have some influence (not a major one).
