Why do we need to put garbage in plastic bags?
Why can't we quit using plastic garbage bags?
Answer:
I live in East Riding of Yorkshire England and I asked our local council this question 6 months ago because their literature on what to put in the blue recycling bins said items must be tied in carrier bags.
The Council eventually agreed that it is a none sense to buy bags just to put recyclable waste in. So we haven't used plastic bags for the last 6 months in either of our recyclable/non recyclable item bins. We have never had a problem with food smells as we compost peelings and avoid food waste.
Ask your local council, they may not object to you not using plastic bags. They probably haven't really thought about the issue yet.
I don't know about where you live but animals knock my garbage over and that is a big mess with bags, I couldn't even imagine without bags. I do agree there could be a bag made from cellulose or something more Eco friendly.
just to be neater
We could! People just have the habit of lining their smaller garbage cans (like in the kitchen, bathroom) with plastic bags so the garbage won't dirty the garbage can and stink up the house. But really, only kitchen trash (organic stuff) stinks. Inorganic stuff doesn't, making plastic bags unnecessary.
And if it's organic---vegetable scraps, bones, banana peels, etc.--they can be composted! What a waste to throw it in the landfill!
We can definitely reduce our usage of plastic bags. It's just hard to get people to change their stubborn habits.
Keeps thing tidy in the truck, til man or beast rips them open at the dump. Only recycables are left in the open red/white/blue containers in my old town.
In my city, we are required to bag regular trash, and they prefer we not bag recyclable.
The reason we are given for bagging all regular trash is that it cuts down on the insect problems - specifically flies.
Hope that Helps a bit!
Just keeps things neater and our trash cans a little cleaner, at least you can purchase trash bags that will degraded in the landfill...but if you've ever seen a landfill at work those machines tear, rip, and crush everything to compact it down to the smallest they possibly can.so maybe were buying plastic trash bags just to give the chemical companies one more thing to sell us...
because you'll have to wash the trash can at some point which is far more disgusting without trash can liners.
its called cleanliness, which prevents disease.
I've often wonder that myself. Plastic takes forever to deteriorate. I think just filling the garage can up would make much more sense, save the landfills from an over abundance of plastic and be more cost friendly to consumers.
How things have changed through the years. While I was growing up in the 50's and 60's, we lined our trash cans with newspaper, to keep them cleaner. At that time we had not seen plastic trash bags.
That's a very good point... and u know what?
-- I believe someone, somewhere in this world will read this and sooner than ever it'll be the new household trend!
We don't use trash bags anymore. We just throw our trash in the trash can & set it out by the road. We have done this for about 3 years & they have never complained about it.
It normally takes us a month to 6 weeks to fill our roadside trash can...We recycle reduce & reuse everything we can & we have noticed a tremendous difference in how much we take to the road...
You don't have to use trash bags.
to recycle
i might stop using plastic liners now. no animals, i live in the city. thanks!
It's a unique way to minimize all the waste in one bundle to aviod all the debris from being loose else place.
it will stink,i hate a stinkie trash can.we all need trash bags..this is just a crazy question.
It helps to keep the garbage all together and reduces the chance that some will be spilled out onto the ground when it is picked up by garbage trucks.also it is more sanitary. Some garbage items just should not be in the open, it just makes sense, think about it people.
