i am looking for a solution which enables me to monitor my house global electrical consumption LIVE, from my desktop (or possibly from any web enabled device). also would be good if the solution would enable me to keep logs of my electrical consumption. does anyone have a simple solution ?

There is a gizmo called a power cost monitor that does what you need. some are wireless enabled.
Ther eare meters available that you can link up to your computer, but they are very very rare, ther eare also individual units which will tell you to. But they are very expensive. Use your meter and record the units you use and then calcualte, as this would be the cheaper option. You could also then identify what times more is being used if you read it at regualr invervals.
