Does recycling save you money? How?
Answer:
I can think of several ways that recycling can save you money:
1. There are still places that will give you money for recycling something, such as aluminum cans. Additional, certain states charge a bottle or can deposit when you buy certain beverages. You will get your money back by returning your cans and bottles to the store.
2. Some cities charge for trash pick-up according to the size of garbage can you use, so you are charged more if you throw away more trash. They usually do not charge more for extra recycling, so the more you recycle, the less you will pay for your trash service. (Sadly, this is not offered in my city, which will allow residents to fill up to 3 - 90 gallon trash containers without any additional charge.)
3. Finally, one of the best ways to recycle, in my opinion, is to reuse certain things rather than throwing them away or sending them to a recycling facility. It takes energy (electricity, etc.) to process items at a recycling facility, so often the most environmentally friendly way to recycle something is to continue to reuse it yourself. For example, I use ziploc bags over and over again, until they fall apart, and I use old yogurt containers as tupperware. I haven't purchased ziploc bags or tupperware in years!
You won't see an immediate or drastic change in the amount of money you save. Let's say you save your plastic bags and reuse them (=recycle them within your own house). You won't be using money to buy hefty or tuf garbage bags from the grocery store because you'd be using something you already have. Recycling paper would not really save you money. You would just get more products that are recycled which may end up costing the companies more to make. Recycling ink cartridges and toners save you money if you turn them into some stores which in return offer you coupons or free items.
recycling in out city saves us $21.00 a billing period and we collect our aluminum cans and turn them in for money
Yes it does, heres how. Recycling saves companies money by reducing the cost of producing raw materials (like aluminum witch is very difficult to mine and produce). It is much cheaper and easier to re peoduce a product that already has been partially processed.
Many items that can be recycled, someone is willing to pay you for them. Just like yard sales, one person's trash is another's treasures.
For example, you can get rebates;
-beer bottles
-metals
-newspapers ( in some areas)
Anything that returns cash into your pocket, saves you money and saves the resources and energy that goes into obtaining, producing, and distributing it.
Yes, it saves me a lot of money.
First, I pay $7 less per month for trash collection because I recycle. They take the $7 off of my bill automatically because I signed up with the city to recycle.
Secondly, I buy second hand items, which is a form of recycling. My clothes, furniture, car and other things are almost always "used", and cost me a lot less money than buying new.
I also sometimes sell my used things. I sell them for less than I paid for them originally, but I get some of that money back.

We are really doing our part.
Unlike Gore and Clinton purchasing "energy credits" some people actually work to improve the environment.
In the Florida Keys we separate our trash into three different bins. Glass, Plastic and finally rubbish. I am temporally in the New Orleans area. I personally recycle aluminum, everywhere I go I find aluminum cans on the ground, I pick them up, it's money on the ground. I take the cans to a re-cycling plant.
I also use all of my peelings from fruits and vegetables in my compose bin, which in turn I use in my garden.
We use cloth napkins in our home instead of paper.
I use re-chargeable batteries instead of regular batteries
In my case it does.In our town we pay for trash pick up by purchasing special bags that cost $2.50 a piece. If I didn't recycle, especially my plastic,my bags would fill up much quicker and therefore cost me more money.I can get away with one bag a week as long as all my recyclable material is separate.
Sure. Some recycling centers will pay you for what you bring in. It may not be a big amount but it's money back in your pocket and what better pocket to be in right.
You guys all have the LAMEST, SUCKKYEST answers. For petes sake.
Everyone knows that recycling is a bunch of baloney, and Greenpeace and all those other pantywaists want you to recycle this, reuse that. Give me a break! Its all propeganda. If they really wanted to make an impact start neutering people. There would be less children born, thus less resources needed. Then we could all have new pretty things and never worry about running out. No matter what happens though, my Garden's Alive!
